Security agencies have arrested a 20-year-old man, Ivan Musana, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he appears wearing a military jacket and making inciting statements.
According to a police statement issued by the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, Rachael Kawala, today Musana was tracked down and arrested in Bukedea District in eastern Uganda.
Kawala says preliminary investigations have established that Musana is not a member of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).
She adds that Musana was arrested in Bukedea District and is currently detained at Kawempe Police Station as investigations continue.
Police say the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Resident State Attorney for legal review and guidance.
As the country approaches the general elections scheduled for January 15, 2026, police have reminded the public to use social media responsibly.
The police caution that content that constitutes threats, hate speech or impersonation of security personnel is punishable under the law and may lead to prosecution.
