NUTOFA Sacco Moves to Provide Quality Seeds on Loan to Farmers in Northern Uganda

Northern Uganda Tractor Owners, Operators, mechanics, and Farmers (NUTOFA) Sacco, an agricultural cooperative is working towards easing access to quality seeds by providing seeds on loan to farmers.

Robert Achac Okok, the Chairperson of NUTOFA says that the cooperative supported 300 farmers in Gulu, Nwoya and Amuru districts in 2025 with red beauty ground nut seeds as a pilot project.

He explains that red beauty ground nut variety is resistant to ground nut Rosette Virus, a disease that causes stunning and distortion of growing ground nuts shoots.

Achac says that for each bag of ground nuts, farmers pay back two bags.

He adds that for everyone bag of ground nuts planted on one acre of land has yielded a minimum of 15 bags.

Achac says, can deg lok farmer group in Alero Sub County, Nwoya district received 120 bags of red beauty ground nuts and they harvested over 1, 500 bags of groundnuts.

Okumu Okoya, a member of Can deg lok farmers group says that they have been able to return 240 bags of ground nuts to NUTOFA.

Achac, the chairperson NUTOFA says, that the cooperative will this year include maize, beans and soybeans on the list of seeds to loan to organized farmer groups.
