Jimmy Akena, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party president has launched a cattle dip tank in Akokoro, Apac district to help the community there fight tick borne diseases.
The communal dip tank was constructed over 40 years ago alongside over 200 others across the country during the Dr. Apolo Milton Obote regime.
Akena while addressing journalists at his home in Akokoro yesterday, said the dip tank was rehabilitated at 68 million shillings through the Jimmy Akena foundation.
Veterinary experts say it costs about 200 million shillings to construct a communal dip tank.
He says that government needs to consider constructing and rehabilitating dip tanks across the three sub regions of Lango, Acholi and Teso where it intends to carry out cattle restocking.
Akena says there is also need for government to put in place adequate extension workers to train people on how to take care of cattle to avoid losses.
President Yoweri Museveni who recently halted the cattle restocking program said it would start after the presidential elections.
