Police in Gulu City East have arrested a man over the alleged possession and distribution of unauthorized voter location slips during the recently concluded local government elections.
The suspect, identified as Derick Omony, was arrested today afternoon at Pakwelo Primary Polling Station in Laroo-Pece Division while voting was ongoing for City Division mayors and councillors.
According to David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Regional Police Spokesperson, Omony was found in possession of 28 unauthorized voter location slips.
Authorities allege that the slips were intended for unlawful distribution, an act that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
Mudong says the matter is now being handled by the Political and Electoral Crimes Desk at Gulu Central Police Station, which has commenced detailed investigations into the incident.
He adds that upon completion of the investigations, the case file will be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for legal review and guidance on possible charges.
The suspect was being detained at Gulu City East Police Station as investigations continued.
