Over 10 Karamojong warriors have been killed since the beginning of this year for rusting in Agago district.
The latest incident happened at 8:00pm on Monday when an unidentified warrior was shot dead in Akilok village, Kiteng Sub County after the deceased and other warriors raided 35 goats.
24 of the goats and one AK 47 rifle were recovered by soldiers who pursued the criminals, according to Capt. Ibrahim Sekitto, the UPDF fifth division infantry Public Information Officer.
Sekitto notes that rusting by Karamojong warriors is rampant during the dry season and that the thieves target animals grazing in lonely places.
He however says that the intensive army operation against rustling will reduce the warriors’ appetite for stealing animals.
Karamojong warriors who were widely known for rustling cattle have in the recent years been rustling goats as well.
