The surgical ward at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital is set to undergo rehabilitation works.
The rehabilitation works which will also include toilets in antenatal, mental health and TB units are estimated to cost 119 million shillings.
Walter Uriekwun, the principal administrator at Gulu Regional referral hospital says the surgical ward which is among the first buildings constructed in 1934 when the facility was established is in a very sorry state.
The site has already been handed to the contractor who is expected to complete work in five months.
He explains that the hospital will for the time being handle only emergency operations that include broken limbs from boda-boda accidents while planned operations will be rescheduled to avoid pressure on the hospital.
Uriekwun adds that the patients who will under emergency surgery will be accommodated at the physiotherapy unit for the time being.
