Lamwo District Launches UGX 422 Million Road Upgrade in Palabek Abera

Lamwo District has begun major road maintenance in Palabek Abera Sub-county after receiving UGX 422 million from the Uganda Road Fund (URF) and the exercise, which started on March 2, 2026, focuses on two key routes: the 24-kilometre Kamama Central–Pamo Road and the 24-kilometre Labworoyeng–Pager Road both linking rural communities to trading centres and neighbouring districts.

Palabek Abera LCIII Chairperson, Okot Patrick, welcomes the initiative, saying it comes at the right time for residents.

He adds that the roads provide direct access to Kitgum District and alternative routes to Pader and Gulu districts, reducing travel time and improving trade.

Lamwo District LC V Chairperson, Oyet Sisto Ocen, says the funding reflects the government’s continued commitment to rural infrastructure.

He notes that roads serving farming communities and trading centres were prioritized because agriculture is the backbone of the local economy and urged residents to cooperate with technical teams during the works.

Lamwo district Resident District Commissioner, William Komakech, praised the fast rollout and promised close monitoring for transparency and accountability and warns contractors and officers against misuse of funds and urging residents to report irregularities.
