Panyimur Council Donates Building Materials to Wangkadu Primary School

Panyimur Sub-county Council has donated building materials to Wangkadu Primary School to help address a severe shortage of classrooms that has forced hundreds of pupils to study in open spaces.

Local leaders say the twelve eucalyptus wood logs were donated following repeated appeals from the school administration, as nearly 900 pupils currently share only two classroom blocks.

The shortage has forced many learners to study outside or on verandas due to limited space.

Kimu Ocira, the Chairperson of the School Management Committee says the planned structure is expected to accommodate at least 70 pupils.

He adds that overcrowding has forced some classes to conduct lessons in staff rooms and even the head teacher’s office.

Hillary Lemaku, the Head teacher, says the school is also planting trees to provide shade for learners as a temporary solution to the space challenge.

Wangkadu Primary School was relocated to its current site in 2021 after rising water levels from the River Nile submerged the former school structures.
