Gulu Records Decline in Malaria Positivity Rate

The Malaria positivity rate in Gulu district has dropped to 46 % according to statistics from the District Health Office.

Dr. Kenneth Cana says the malaria positivity rate which has dropped from 53 % is still high and attributes it to poor use of mosquito nets by members of the public.

The is comes as Gulu district is set to distribute 1,686 bales of mosquito nets given to the district by the Ministry of Health under the presidential malaria initiative.

Dr. Cana says the nets will be distributed on a ratio of 1:2 under the leadership of parish chiefs.

He calls on local leaders to ensure that the nets reach the intended beneficiaries in a bid to reduce malaria, which remains the leading cause of hospitalization in the district.

Besides mosquito nets, slashing of bushes and getting rid of water logging around homes are some of the measures government is advocating for to eradicate malaria.
