Mortuary to be constructed at Awach in phases

The construction of a mortuary at Awach Health center IV in Gulu district will be done in phases, according to reports.

Dr. Kenneth Cana, the Gulu district health Officer says the construction will be done in two financial years due to inadequate funds.

Cana says the mortuary which will have a capacity of six bodies is estimated to cost 249 million shillings.

He explains that they have so far secured 56 million shillings for the construction work which is expected to start soon.

Once completed, the mortuary will reduce pressure on Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.

It will also be a relief for Awach Health Center IV which is currently struggling with storage of bodies in the absence of a mortuary.

Cana says they currently use a consultation room to keep bodies of patients who die at the facility but that bodies of patients who turn up unaccompanied

sometimes take long to be picked up by relatives hence posing a challenge to the facility.
