UPCs Jimmy Akena restores Mucwini Cattle dip

The Jimmy Akena Foundation has restored a cattle dip in Kel polo village, Pubech parish, Mucwini East Sub County in Kitgum district, an initiative that is aimed at preventing diseases such as Nagana and foot and mouth.

The cattle dip was yesterday handed over the community with several heads of cattle dipped for free.

Job Kilama, a cattle farmer in Likol A village, Mucwini East Sub County says he has been spending 35,000 shillings every two weeks on medicine to spray his cattle against ticks and now hopes the cattle dip will offer a cheaper service.

Richard Odong Herbert, the L.C III Chairperson of Mucwini East Sub County says they are set to hold a meeting to agree on how much to charge for dipping to ensure sustainability.

The cattle dip is among over 100 built across the country in the 1970s’, according to Jimmy Akena, the Uganda People’s Congress party president.

It is the second dip being restored by the Jimmy Akena foundation after one in Akokoro village, Apac district.

Akena says restoration of the cattle dips is aimed at positioning Northern Uganda to export cattle and beef to the far East including China which is one of Uganda’s biggest trading partner.
