Police Arrest Five Suspects After Night Burglary in Soroti

Police in Soroti City have arrested five suspects in connection with the theft of a generator and other valuable household and construction items.

The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Kengere Ward, Soroti City East Division, after police received credible information linking them to a burglary reported on Monday.

According to Ibrahim Saiga, the Regional Police Commander for East Kyoga, the complaint had been filed by Aaron Abiro, a resident of Asuret Sub-county in Soroti District, who reported that unknown individuals had broken into his home at night and stolen a generator and a mowing machine.

Acting on the intelligence gathered, a joint police team carried out a targeted raid at ICON Bar, located in Teso Inn Cell, where the stolen generator was recovered.

Further searches conducted at the residence of one of the suspects, Juma Abdallah, led to the recovery of additional items believed to have been stolen.

Among the items recovered during the operation were two mowing machines, iron sheets, electric wires, two wheelbarrows, a wheel cart, metallic pipes, and several other assorted metallic materials, raising suspicions that the group may have been involved in a broader series of thefts in the area.

The suspects are currently detained at Soroti East Division Police Headquarters.

Police say the suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime and provided investigators with information about locations where some of the stolen items had been hidden.
