A private health facility in Amuru District has been suspended following the death of a 29-year-old expectant mother under circumstances pointing to alleged medical negligence.
Charity Medical Centre, which operates branches in Amuru Town Council and Amuru Sub-county, was shut down on Monday this week at the directive of Geoffrey Osborn Oceng, the Resident District Commissioner.
According to information obtained by Favour FM, the deceased, whose identity was not immediately available, died on Tuesday last week after suffering severe bleeding.
Alfred Okello, the Amuru District Health Officer says the woman first sought medical attention at the facility’s Amuru Town Council branch on Monday last week
She was later referred to another branch in Amuru Sub- County for an ultrasound scan, despite already showing signs of active bleeding.
He notes that instead of referring her to a higher-level health facility for emergency care, the medical team retained her as her condition worsened.
The patient was eventually rushed to Lacor Health Centre III on Tuesday last week but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Okello says the district health department has launched investigations into the facility’s operations, including its licensing status, staff qualifications, and adherence to required medical standards.
Alfred Baluku, the District Police Commander confirms the closure but notes that police are not currently deployed to guard the premises.
