Police in Lira District have launched investigations into a violent mob attack that left a 24-year-old Lira university student dead and a private clinic nurse critically injured.
The incident in Ayito Village, Adola Parish, Awiodyek Sub-county in Lira District is believed to have occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 3rd December 2025.
The victims, Emmanuel Ongom, a student of Lira University, and Mackay Otim, a resident of Kakoge B Cell in Lira City West Division and a nurse at Good Choice Clinic in Kakoge Zone, were found lying by the roadside along the route from Corner Amach to Amach Town Council. The student was already dead, while the other was unconscious and in critical condition.
The survivor, Otim, was immediately evacuated to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where he is reportedly responding well to treatment, while the body of Ongom was taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Public Relations Officer for the North Kyoga Police Region, says both victims had ropes tied around them, each bearing a dead chicken. Nearby, officers recovered assorted clothing items and two pairs of shoes.
Investigators believe the attack was a case of mob action, possibly linked to allegations of theft, and with the help of a police sniffer dog, a suspect identified as David Otiti has been arrested to help with investigations.
