Police arrest 16 for disorderly conduct during Easter in Kitgum

Police in Kitgum Municipality have arrested 16 individuals for allegedly disturbing the peace during Easter Day celebrations.

The arrests were carried out at various hangouts across the municipality, where the suspects were reportedly involved in fights, attempted fights, and other forms of disorderly conduct.

According to the Kitgum District Police Commander, Peter Oyesigye, three of the suspects were arrested in Gandyang Cell, Pandwong Division, on allegations of theft after residents alerted police.

He explains that the remaining 13 suspects will be screened at Kitgum Central Police Station, with those found to have committed serious offences to be arraigned in court, while others may be released with a caution.

Kitgum Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Komakech Walter Oyo, says the Easter celebrations were generally calm, with no major incidents reported.

Oyo urges residents to maintain peace during Easter Monday and the days that follow.

Police say the operation was part of efforts to ensure public safety and maintain law and order during the festive period.
