Former LRA abductees left out in Cattle restocking

Former Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) abductees are complaining of being left out in the cattle restocking program despite being among the targeted beneficiaries, according to reports

Besides former abductees, government is currently targeting the elderly, persons with disability, widows, widowers, orphans, female headed households, unskilled and unemployed youth in the first phase of the cattle restocking program.

Peter Banya, the Gulu Resident City Commissioner (RCC) in charge Laroo-Pece Division says his office has received complaints from former abductees that they have not been included among the beneficiaries to receive the government funds.

Banya says that it’s currently difficult to verify former LRA abductees and that some local council one officials are now also claiming to be former abductees.

He says the verification exercise of the initial beneficiaries of the cattle restocking program has been concluded with the lists set to be sent to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

A total of 21 households have been selected per parish to benefit from the first phase of the program.

Each household is set to receive five million shillings to purchase three heifers and two oxen.

A total of 80 billion shillings has been earmarked by Government for the restocking program in Acholi, Lango and Teso sub regions.
