15-year-old boy kills own father over mobile phone

Police in Oyam district are investigating the killing of a 49-year old man by his son in Zaire Village, Myene Sub-county.

A police report issued by Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson says that Simon Okeng was assaulted to death by 15-year old son identified as Ambrose Oyet at 6:00pm on Wednesday.

Okema says that preliminary findings indicate that the deceased had been expecting cattle restocking money from the government through his mobile phone, which at the time was being used by the suspect.

Okema adds that on the evening of 29th April 2026, the deceased returned home and found the suspect attempting to read messages on the phone.

He reportedly demanded for the phone, but the suspect declined, leading to a quarrel in which the suspect allegedly picked up a piece of wood and struck the deceased several times on the head, causing him to collapse.

The deceased’s wife, who witnessed the incident, intervened and attempted to rush him to a nearby health facility, but he unfortunately died on the way.

Okema says that the suspect was immediately apprehended by local leaders and handed over to police at Minakulu Town Council Police Station where a case of murder by assault was registered.

The body was conveyed to Anyeke Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.
