
The joint security components in Gulu are Investigating a group of assailants who allegedly attacked and murdered a Gulu University staff in the wee hours of today.
40-year-old Chris Nyeko is said to have been attacked and killed at around 5:40am near St. Peter’s Catholic church and Gulu University proximity when he was on his way home.
Nyeko, a resident in Forest cell, Pece Prisons, Pece-Laroo Division in Gulu City was a Laboratory Technician at the University.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Police spokesperson confirms this incident and says, Preliminary information obtained from relevant sources reveal that, before the deceased was murdered, he was last seen yesterday at around 11:30 pm in a shop around Jaka gardens before shifting to D-Plus bar around the University area where he always hangs out with friends.
Sources say, he left D-Plus Pub at around 05: 30 am in the morning of today heading for home on foot.
Mudong adds that the clues show that, the victim could have got into a misunderstanding from where he was hanging out with friends prompting the assailants to trail him.
The neighbours at Wal-Bongo Market say, they heard someone shouting which means there was an altercation between them before the victim was killed and his belongings robbed possibly including his phone.
The police commanded by the OC of Gulu CPS on information rushed out to the scene and found the lifeless body of Nyeko Chris lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the road with his forehead bearing a deep cut wound suspected to have been inflicted using a sharp object.
Mudong adds that the police Homicide detectives headed by the Scene of Crimes Officers documented the scene by collecting exhibits of forensics values to back up investigations, statements were recorded from relevant sources and the body of the deceased was conveyed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
Mudong urges people to prioritise personal security and safety to avoid life threatening encounters especially at night hours.
