
Residents in Lamwo District are celebrating after Honorable Doris Abalo was elected the first female Speaker of the district council since the district was created in 2011.
Abalo promised to promote fairness, unity, and people-centered leadership while presiding over council business. Speaking shortly after taking oath, she urged councilors to put aside political differences and focus on improving service delivery.
She said residents are demanding better roads, schools, health services, and employment opportunities, adding that leaders must work together for the district to develop.
Former Agago District Gender Officer Akullu Grace Regina says the victory will inspire young girls to believe they can also become leaders.
Human rights activist Okongo Morgan Joel asks district leaders to end political wrangles that have affected development projects and delayed recruitment of workers.
Several residents now hope Abalo’s leadership will promote accountability, unity, and faster development across Lamwo District.
Many residents say the historic election marks a new beginning for inclusive leadership and improved public trust in Lamwo.
