Awach health center 4 is planning to have a vaccine store for Gulu district constructed at the health facility when the Gulu district headquarters will shift to Awach.
A medicine and vaccine store, also known as a cold chain point (CCP), is a health center that stores vaccines and other supplies in an ice-lined refrigerator.
The CCP is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing vaccines to other CCPs or directly to session sites.
CCPs also have a deep freezer for preparing frozen ice packs and a generator for backup power.
According to Dr Kenneth Cana, the acting District Health Officer for Gulu district, they are currently storing their vaccine at the Gulu district vaccine store which is in the city.
Cana says that vaccines are very delicate and therefore there is a need for Gulu district to have their own vaccine store in Awach when the district finally shifts its headquarters to Awach.
Cana adds that it’s already in plan to have a vaccine store constructed at Awach health center IV for easy access.
Cana says that currently they have very good refrigerators for storing medicine and vaccines that are being used but they will still need to have the vaccine store because it is important.
