The Commercial Office in Gulu district says it has successfully completed elections of Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO leaders.
Alfred Ocen, the Gulu District Commercial Officer says the elections which took place across 47 PDM SACCOs in the district were completed on Wednesday adding that the elections were carried out through lining up behind candidates.
Ocen notes that majority of the SACCOs elected new leaders while a few maintained their old leaders.
He explains that old leaders who were maintained exhibited a high level of integrity.
The government ordered a sweeping overhaul of SACCO boards nationwide following widespread governance failures—including extortion and the inclusion of ineligible beneficiaries.
The mandatory exercise is a pre-condition for the next round of PDM capitalization.
Government says all elections must be concluded by the 30th of this month.
