Police Flying Squad Neutralizes Suspected Mobile Money Robber in Hoima City

The police flying squad in the Albertine region shot and critically injured a suspected mobile money robber in Hoima City.

The suspect, 42 year old Hamis Keya, a resident of Wakiso District, is accused of masterminding a string of violent robberies targeting mobile money agents in Wakiso, Kampala, Luwero, Masindi, and Hoima.

It is alleged that Keya and others at large have been targeting mobile money operators, particularly during cash transportation, while armed with killer weapons, including guns and machetes.

The police in Wakiso liaised with their counterparts in Hoima city and coordinated the operation.

He was intercepted near Hoima School of Nursing and Midwifery in Hoima city. He attempted to flee, forcing the flying squad detectives to shoot him in the right thigh.

He was later arrested and taken to Hoima regional referral hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under tight security.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says efforts are being made to have the suspect transferred to Wakiso district, where he committed the current offense, for further interrogation.

Hakiza says the Flying squad detectives also recovered the suspected stolen motorcycle that the suspect was riding on, adding that it is currently parked at Hoima City Central police station as an exhibit.
