A section of local residents of Unyama Sub county in Gulu district have demanded the transfer of a midwife accused of mistreating expectant mothers at Angaya health center 111.
The unnamed mid-wife is reportedly rude and neglects expectant mothers who fail to attend ante natal care or turn up with babies after giving birth on the road or at home.
Last year, a mother reportedly lost her newborn baby after being neglected by the midwife.
The matter was raised during an engagement meeting held at Unyama Sub county on Monday.
Justin Obol, the Gulu district L.C V Chairperson in response said the matter would be investigated before any disciplinary measures can be taken against the said mid-wife.
He however urges health workers to be kind to patients.
Meanwhile, William Onyai, the Gulu district Health Educator says some mothers mistake tough tones of midwives for rudeness.
He explains that sometimes midwives are forced to use a tough tone when expectant mothers neglect to attend antenatal care, a preventive healthcare provided during pregnancy to monitor the health of both the mother and the developing fetus.
