Families of Opit Travellers Bus Crash Victims Receive Government Support

Families of people who died in the recent head-on collision involving an Opit Travellers bus and a trailer in Omoro District have received financial support from the government. 

The cash assistance was handed over on Saturday in Gulu City by Lillian Aber, the Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Relief and Refugees.



The crash, which occurred on Tuesday night at Lwena Village in Bobi Sub-county along the Gulu-Kampala Highway, claimed 15 lives and left 27 others injured.

Under the government’s intervention, each bereaved family will receive five million Shillings to help meet burial expenses, while each injured survivor is entitled to one million Shillings to support medical treatment and recovery. 

During the distribution exercise at Gulu City Council, 12 of the 15 bereaved families received the 5 million Shillings support.

Three families were absent.

Of the 27 injured survivors, 15 collected the 1 million Shillings assistance, while the remaining 12 beneficiaries did not attend the event.
