Police in Oyam district are investigating an arson attack on the home of the L.C I Chairperson of Ader village in Otwal Sub County.
A police report says that Edward Odoch, the L.C I chairperson’s four residential houses were set on fire at 12:34 am yesterday.
Patrick Jimmy Okema said in a statement that the 64-year old had previously received threats from family members of Peter Okaka who were arrested in June for cattle theft.
Okema says that only two of the four houses were saved despite efforts by family members and neighbours to extinguish the fire which destroyed property such as four bags of soya beans, two sacks of maize, kitchen utensils, and various farm tools.
He says that information obtained from a witness indicates that several suspects were allegedly overheard discussing plans to facilitate the burning of the complainant’s houses on the night of the incident.
Four suspects identified as Peter Okaka, Ambrose Ojok, Dennis Obura and Bonny Aremo have since been arrested.
Okema adds that exhibits including a matchbox and a pair of sandals believed to be connected to one of the suspects were recovered during the forensic examination of the scene.
