The incumbent LC1 Chairperson of Kirombe, Mark Oyet, has threatened to go to court if the Electoral Commission fails to declare him winner of yesterday’s Local Council elections.
Oyet lost to opposition candidate Atimango Harriet, who polled 236 votes against his 196 votes.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Oyet said he was dissatisfied with the election outcome, alleging vote rigging and irregularities.
He appeals to the Electoral Commission to nullify his opponent’s victory and declare him winner, or call for a re-run.
One resident, Acan Beatrice, also raises concerns, claiming that private security guards deployed at the polling station intimidated voters.
She appeals to security agencies to investigate the matter, saying residents were not given a chance to vote freely due to interference from other leaders.
Meanwhile, the Deputy City Commissioner for Pece-Laroo Division, Peter Banya, warns leaders against interfering in LC1 elections and urges them to allow communities to elect their own leaders.
Bany advises any candidate dissatisfied with the results to seek redress through the Electoral Commission’s office.
