The Diocese of Kitgum is preparing to host the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda as part of his nationwide farewell tour ahead of his retirement next year.

Archbishop Kaziimba is scheduled to retire on the 14th of August next year upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65.

As part of the preparations for his retirement, the Archbishop is visiting all 39 dioceses of the Church of Uganda.

He is expected in Kitgum on the 25th of next month with the main farewell celebration scheduled for the 26th at All Saints Cathedral, the headquarters of the Diocese of Kitgum.

Bishop Wilson Kitara of Kitgum Diocese says the Archbishop has maintained a strong relationship with the Diocese of Kitgum and deserves a befitting farewell for his contribution to the Church and the community.

Canon Gladys Oyat, the vice chairperson of the organising committee, says the turnout at the event will demonstrate the people’s appreciation of Archbishop Kaziimba’s leadership. The organising committee expects more than 5,000 people to attend the celebration, with all 40 parishes in the Diocese of Kitgum expected to participate.

Rev. Willy Olango, the Diocesan Secretary of Kitgum Diocese, says the organising committee estimates that about 100 million shillings will be required to host the event.
