Dr. Edward Omaido, the Gulu City Veterinary Officer has warned residents against buying uninspected meat because it is unsafe for human consumption.
Omaido says residents should look out for a stamp with a caption “PASSED” which shows that a veterinary officer has inspected the meat.
His advice follows reports that meat from dead animals is being sold in the City to unsuspecting residents.
Omaido says they receive between 5-8 cases of this kind every week.
He says meat coming into the city from neighbouring Omoro district is checked at Layibi checkpoint adding that the City also has scouts who move to butchers and markets for meat inspection.
He however says there is a need for the public to be involved in the fight against uninspected meat.
