
Police in Kole district are investigating the death of a 60-year old man after being released from custody.
The deceased identified as Nicholas Obim was arrested on August 26, 2026 on allegations of threatening violence against his wife Anna Apio.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga region police spokesperson says that the matter was reported to Boke police station by Apio leading to Obim’s arrest and detention.
Okema says that the Obim however started behaving strangely the following day, banging loudly on the police cell door claiming he was being attacked by evil spirits prompting police to handcuff him hoping it would calm him down.
Okema says that Obim became weak and sickly the following morning prompting police to notify his wife who immediately picked him and took him to Aboke health center IV where he was admitted for treatment.
He was however, pronounced dead that same day and his was body taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem to establish the cause of death.
Okema denied reports circulating that Obim died in police cells and that police have registered a death inquiry case into the matter.
