Kitgum Municipal Council has entered the mapping phase of the long-awaited Trade Order, marking the first time it is systematically addressing illegal structures, pavement vendors and unregulated kiosks that have long cluttered its streets.
Patrick Ochan, Deputy Town Clerk and Chairperson of the Trade Order Task Force, confirms that the municipality is now physically identifying and marking affected structures with red crosses.
The exercise, which began about three weeks ago, has already covered Pandwong Division before Central Division and is currently focused on the Central Business District.
The team is expected to complete mapping of the Central Business District this week and next week before reviewing the findings and engaging affected traders.
Mayor Richard Okwera Ojara says the mapping covers the entire municipality stretch — from Accaki Lodge at the entry point to Labuje Market at the exit.
Unlike some local governments that moved straight into demolitions, Kitgum has deliberately chosen a phased and consultative approach.
