Volunteers in Nwoya district have requested government for more support to enable them execute their duties.
They were speaking over the weekend during the International Volunteers Day from Amar Primary school playground in Koch-Goma Sub-County.
Ben Kenneth Okello, the Spokesperson of Village Health Teams (VHTs) in Nwoya East says their work is very critical in community sensitization and referring cases of diseases in the community.
He urges government to consider providing VHT leaders with allowances and motorcycles to enable them reach many areas.
Okello also urges partners working with VHTs to stop exploiting them but rather support them during their work.
Okello Geoffrey Komlok, the Nwoya East MP says they started the international Volunteers day four years ago to celebrate the work of different volunteers in the district.
Komlok says he will work closely with both the local and central government to support the work being done by volunteers in Nwoya district.
