More than 13.1 billion shillings meant for the poorest families under the Parish Development Model is still lying idle in bank accounts in Lamwo District.
According to the District PDM Focal Person Ductus Joseph Ogiki, the delay is because newly elected SACCO boards have not been trained to handle the cash.
Ogiki says the money is safe in Pearl Bank.
He explains that 86 parishes in Lamwo have PDM SACCOs, and each has so far received over 401 million shillings. In total, Lamwo has received 34.2 billion, with 21.3 billion already given to 21,356 households.
The PDM program is government’s plan to move 39 percent of Ugandans from subsistence to money economy.
Ogiki says with the WENDI mobile money system, stealing and misuse has reduced because beneficiaries no longer travel to Kitgum for cash.
He asks beneficiaries to be patient as training ends this month.
