Members of Gulu City Council Boda-boda Motorcycle Association are set to venture into coffee farming to improve their financial freedom.
The majority of boda-boda motorcyclists in the city depend largely on their daily earnings from carrying passengers.
This predisposes them to poverty in case of old age, accident, theft of their motorcycles.
Johnson Odong, the spokesperson Gulu City Council Boda-boda Motorcycle Association says they have applied for coffee seedlings from the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) so that their members are financially secure in the future.
He says the association wants each of their over 10,000 members to plant at least an acre of coffee next year.
Coffee is an emerging cash crop in Acholi Sub region, which has predominantly grown seasonal crops that mature in three to nine months.
