Okot Francis has been elected the new chairperson Gulu University convocation replacing Pastor Joseph Okidi who died following a road accident in October this year.
Okot who is a former Guild President of Gulu University (2023-2024) garnered 72 votes to claim the position during an election chaired by Dr. Constantine Loum at the Annual General Meeting.
His sole competitor, Mule Richard Taban got 20 votes.
Okot says he will work towards ensuring that the convocation’s constitution is amended to allow the alumni body operate autonomously from the University.
The convocation is currently operating under the policies and rules of the university limiting their powers to budget for their activities.
Okot promises to ensure that more alumni become active in the convocation which currently has about 157 active members despite having an alumni population of over 29,000.
