
Amuru district leaders and health department are currently battling a measles outbreak in the district.
Measles outbreak was first confirmed in February this year in Amuru district.
Okello Apollo Kagwa, the Secretary for health in Amuru district says the Measles outbreak has so far spread to five sub-counties of Amuru Town Council, Amuru Sub-County, Layima Sub-County, Lakang Sub-County and Lamogi Sub-County.
He adds that they have done a rapid response where they are currently working with the Ministry of Health to sensitize the community about the disease.
He also adds that they are vaccinating all the children under five in the affected Sub-Counties.
Six out of the 17 samples that were taken for testing turned out positive for measles virus.
Michael Lakony, the Amuru district Chairperson urges residents to be vigilant and report any suspected cases of measles to the health authorities for immediate handling.
