Amuru Police Vow to Arrest Bush Burners

Police in Amuru district have vowed to start arresting people who set bushes on

fire in a bid to eliminate the vice which continues to claim lives, destroy crops and other property such as electrical installations.

Alfred Baluku, the Amuru District Police Commander says they will intensify investigations of wild bush fires to ensure that culprits are punished.

Baluku who was speaking at Gulu district council hall during a stakeholder engagement organized by Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) says they will enforce the electricity Act to discourage the vice and protect electricity infrastructure.

Section 81 (3) of the electricity Act prohibits carrying out of any activity within the power corridor including bush burning and putting up of structures.

UEDCL says it lost 47 electricity poles during this dry season in Acholi sub region especially in Gulu, Amuru and Adjumani which led to prolonged power outages.
