Ateker Leaders Call for Support to Build Ere Iteso Palace

‎Ateker Communities Urged to Support Construction of Ere Iteso Palace Leaders in the Ateker community have called on members across the region to contribute towards the construction of the Ere Iteso Palace, a major cultural project intended to promote unity and strengthen the identity of the Ateker people.

The appeal was made during the launch of the palace construction in Soroti City, where the facility will serve as the headquarters of the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU).

The project, estimated to cost 52 billion shillings, is expected to host offices and cultural activities for the Ateker communities spread across Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.

The Ateker communities include groups such as the Karamojong, Iteso, Langi, and Kumam in Uganda; the Turkana, Maasai, and Iteso in Kenya; the Toposa, Bari, and Torit in South Sudan; and the Nyangatom in Ethiopia.

Andrew Ocole, the Prime Minister of the Iteso Cultural Union says for more than 25 years, the Iteso Cultural Union has operated without a permanent headquarters, making the palace a key milestone for the institution.

Paul Sande Emolot, the Emorimor Papa Iteso, says the palace will serve as a symbol of unity and cultural identity for the Ateker people.
