
The death toll from the Mbarara-Kampala road accident has risen to eleven, with three more victims succumbing to their injuries today afternoon at Lyantonde general hospital.
The fatal accident occurred today early morning hours, at Kalegeero junction, between Lyantonde and Lwengo district, involving a Bus belonging to Kasaba bus company, registration number UAL 492H, which was heading for Kampala from Rukungiri district.
The bus veered off the road after it narrowly missed having a head-on collision with a lorry truck registration number UBH 013Q, which was moving in the opposite direction.
Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, says they have identified two of the latest three deaths.
They include Ernest Abaho, a police officer attached to Mukono district, and Austin Kyomuhangi, a female passenger who was among the occupants of the bus.
Kasirye indicates that they registered at least 30 victims who are still receiving treatment who are still undergoing treatment at Lyantonde district general hospital and Mbarara regional referral hospital, depending on the scale nature of the injuries sustained.
He says their teams are still waiting for the relatives to show up to help in identifying the bodies in the mortuary at Lyantonde hospital mortuary and the victims admitted in the hospital.
Kasirye adds that their teams have also launched a hunt for the bus driver, who he says took off immediately after causing the accident.
