A 27-year-old man was yesterday morning killed by an elephant that strayed into Ceke village, Lii Sub County, Nwoya district.
The deceased has been identified as Moses Obua, who hails from Dokolo district and was farming in Ceke.
Sam Onen, the L.CI Chairperson of Ceke village confirms the report saying that the beast was part of a herd of elephants that invaded the village at 5:00am to destroy crops.
Onen says that community members were trying to drive away the elephants when one of them turned wild and attacked Obua severely.
Onen says that Obua died while waiting to be taken to hospital by Uganda Wild Life Authority game rangers who had been informed.
The chairperson says that besides mourning the death of one of their own, the village is in a food crisis after much of their crops were destroyed by stray elephants.
Lii Sub County remains one of the areas affected most by stray elephants, according to UWA, who have so far built eight kilometres of electric fence there to keep out the elephants.
