
Police in Lira district are investigating a road accident that claimed the life of a 43-year-old man and left 22 other people injured at Apoka Village, Ogur Sub-County along the Lira–Kitgum road.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga public relations officer in a statement says that an Isuzu truck registration UBJ 494J, transporting passengers returning from a campaign rally of President Museveni to Agweng Town Council experienced a brake failure at around 7:30 on Thursday.
Okema says that the vehicle reversed uncontrollably and overturned, resulting in the instant death of Jasper Okori 43, a resident of Tee-Gombola Cell, Aiya Bill Ward, Agweng Town Council.
He says 22 other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, while three others are at a separate health facility.
Okema says that the body was taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem while the vehicle is parked at Lira central police station for inspection.
