The Uganda People’s Defense Forces and Police have taken over the security of key installations and major towns in the Greater Luwero districts ahead of elections scheduled for Thursday.
Soldiers of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces and Policemen have been deployed in major town councils that include Luwero, Kasana, Wobulenzi, Migyera, and Bombo town councils.
The soldiers are patrolling the town councils, especially at night, and guarding key installations.
The UPDF soldiers have also taken over the security of key state installations that include district headquarters and offices of the Electoral Commission, among others.
Now it’s a requirement for everyone who wants to access the district headquarters to register in a book with a clear reason for which office they intend to visit before they are granted access.
Festus Bandeebe, the Nakasongola Resident District Commissioner, says the deployment is intended to protect people, property, and installations during the electoral period.
Bandeebe warns the residents to shun violence during elections, saying the security personnel will respond to such incidents with overwhelming force.
