
Betty Aol Ocan, the Gulu City Woman MP has urged leaders in Omoro district and Gulu to unite and allocate more land to the Regional Cancer Institute in Koro.
Aol notes that one of the key challenges facing the facility is lack of enough land for setting up a Radiotherapy unit and staffs quarters.
She urges the authorities of Omoro district to allocate more land from Koro Sub-County headquarters to the Cancer Center for expansion.
Aol also reveals that right now the Institute is already grappling with many challenges like low staffing and overcrowding among others.
She adds that she will take her findings to Parliament so that some of the challenges are addressed.
Labeja Julius commonly known as Gunya, the Mayor Elect of Gulu City says there is need for massive sensitization of the public to enable them receive cancer screening services in the region.
Dr. Fadhil Geriga, the head of the Gulu Cancer Institute says the Institute receives over 900 people in a year.
He urges the public to diagnose and screen for cancer in the earlier stages for cure to occur.
The Northern Uganda Cancer Institute in Koro was set up to serve the people of the greater Northern Uganda from Karamoja to the West Nile region and also decongest the Uganda Cancer Institute in Kampala.
