Gulu District Announces Free Five-Day Mpox Vaccination Drive

Gulu District health authorities have announced a five-day Mpox vaccination campaign following the delivery of 4,000 vaccine doses from the Ministry of Health.

The exercise is set to begin today and will be conducted at seven health facilities across the district.

According to Gloria Aloyo, the District Communication Officer, the vaccines will be administered at Omel Health Centre III, Cwero Health Centre II, Unyama Health Centre II, Awach Health Centre IV, Bungatira Health Centre III, Patiko Health Centre II, and Palaro Health Centre II.

The vaccination will target children aged 12 years and adults up to 50 years and above, with special focus on high-risk groups such as boda boda operators, mobile market vendors, and sex workers.

To prepare for the campaign, the district organized a two-day training for health workers to ensure proper vaccine administration.

William Onyai, the Gulu District Health Educator, emphasizes that vaccination is a key preventive strategy. He notes that the district had previously recorded imported Mpox cases, particularly in Awach and Owalo sub-counties, during last year’s peak outbreak.
