Gulu district receives 14,000 hand hoes from MAAIF

Gulu district has received 14,000 hand hoes from the Ministry of Agriculture, animal industries and Fisheries, MAAIF.

Christopher Opiyo Ateker, the L.C V Chairperson Gulu district says the hand hoes will be distributed next week to farmer groups, former LRA soldiers and survivors in all the 11 sub counties in the district.

Ateker says the hand hoes are aimed at improving agricultural productivity in households.

The chairman says government would like to see increased production of food and cash crops in order to fight food insecurity and poverty.

The support of hand hoes comes at a time when there is increasing demand for tractors as they work faster and cover larger pieces of land compared to hand hoes.

Majority of land in Acholi sub region remains unutilized due to the lack of tractors according to agricultural experts.
