Local leaders in Gulu district have asked the Uganda electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) to connect electricity to villages to facilitate business and value addition.
Patrick Komakech, the L.CIII Chairperson Patiko Sub County says government’s mini industrialization plans are being frustrated by lack of electricity in rural communities.
Komakech who was speaking during an engagement meeting organized yesterday at Gulu district council hall by the power distribution companies says that mini industries have been rendered redundant because of lack of electricity.
Charles Okello, the L.CIII chairperson Paicho Sub County says that people at sub counties are in dire need of electricity.
He told the meeting that getting connected to electricity has become near to impossible.
Hundreds of produce stores constructed across districts in Acholi sub region by government and development partners are currently abandoned or underutilized because of lack of electricity.
The absence of electricity means farmers continue to sell their produce in raw form instead of adding value to fetch more money.
