Kitgum High Court Clears Way for Jude Ogik’s Coronation as Okol Clan Chief

The Kitgum High Court has dismissed an application seeking to block the coronation of Jude Ogik as clan chief of the Okol Chiefdom, effectively allowing the ceremony to proceed as planned.

The application had been filed by Rwot Joseph Larem Nono—who claims to be the reigning clan chief—through his lawyer, Samuel Openy of Owino, Nyapono, Openy & Company Advocates.

The applicant argues that Ogik’s ascension to the throne was illegitimate and sought an interim injunction to stop the coronation.

In the application before Her Worship Suzanne Aisia Musooli, the Deputy Registrar of the Kitgum High Court, Nono asserts that the coronation scheduled for December 12, 2025, should not take place because Okol Chiefdom already has a legitimate leader who is alive and in office.

His legal team insisted that having two clan chiefs would be unacceptable and would render Ogik’s installation null and void.

The Deputy Registrar ruled that the application had been filed only hours before the coronation, despite the applicants being aware of the preparations.

She says the matter should have been brought earlier, particularly given the resources already invested in the ceremony.

The court’s decision marks the latest twist in the dispute surrounding Ogik’s coronation.

Last month, a group of elders and chiefs from East Acholi petitioned Ker Kwaro Acholi, claiming that Ogik is not the rightful chief of Okol.

Rogers Olanya Olila, the Prime Minister-designate in Ogik’s faction, dismissed the community’s position as baseless.
