Christopher Opoka, the Head-teacher of Kitgum High School says they have discontinued 60 students for various cases of indiscipline and poor academic performance.
The decision, which affects students from different classes, was made after a thorough review of student conduct and academic progress.
According to Opoka, senior five has the highest number of discontinued students, numbering 36 students were asked to seek alternative schools.
Senior two and three combined had 24 students expelled.
The indiscipline cases leading to the expulsions include sneaking with mobile phones into the school, drunkenness, escaping from school without permission, and theft of school properties.
In one notable incident, students allegedly stole 130 plastic chairs from the school, with only 17 recovered.
Opoka explains that the school’s Board of Governors and Parent Teachers’ Association have implemented strict rules regarding phone use on campus.
Only IPads and laptops are allowed, and these must be registered with the school administration and used under supervision.
