Legal Challenge to Iteso Paramount Chief Ends

William Aloch Akol has dropped his petition challenging the election and installation of Paul Sande Emolot as the Iteso Paramount Chief, alias Emorimor.

Aloch and other elders ran to court in 2022 to challenge Emolot’s election and subsequent election following the death of the late Augustine Osuban Lemukol.

However, on Tuesday evening, Aloch said his team agreed to withdraw the petition.

He explains that they had agreed to withdraw the case in good faith and in the interest of the future of the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU).  Emmy Geoffrey Sayekwo, the Deputy Registrar of Soroti High Court presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the ICU offices, formalizing the reconciliation.

After signing the Memorandum of Understanding, Emolot thanked Aloch and his team for choosing peace and unity, noting that the decision will help move the institution forward.
