Man dies by suicide in Unyama

Local leaders in Unyama sub county have expressed need for mental health outreaches to curb cases of suicide.

This follows the death by suicide of a 47-year-old man identified as Francis Oola.

The deceased is a resident of Dogbwunga Ogul, Coopil village, Unyama sub county in Gulu district.

He was reportedly discovered hanging lifeless from a rope in his house at 6:30pm yesterday.

Justin Kidega, the L.CIII Chairperson Unyama sub county confirms the report and calls for mental health outreaches in the community to prevent such deaths.

Statistics from Gulu Regional referral hospital indicate that the facility registers close to 1,000 cases of mental illness every month.

Majority of the cases are depression.
