
The ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has disbursed 47 million shillings to 10 groups of persons with disability.
The ministry started disbursing the funds on January 28, 2026, according to a letter from, Patrick Menya, the permanent secretary ministry of gender, labour and social development.
Anna Grace Akot, the Community Development Officer in charge persons with disability in Gulu district confirms that three groups have so far received the money adding that more groups were yet to receive.
The groups that have already received the money worth 4.7 million shillings each include Pamin mel disability group in Owoo sub county, Laciri poultry group in Awach and Ngolo pe lege disability group in Panykworo, Bungatira Sub county.
Sylvia Angeyo, the chairperson of Ngolo pe lege group says they intend to purchase pigs because they are easier to keep compared to other livestock like goats and cattle that may require herding.
Denis Lakwonyero Ocen, the councilor for persons with disability says that the fund has been instrumental in helping persons with disability avoid relying on handouts.
